If satan could bring fire down from heaven to destroy Job’s sheep and servants, why couldn’t he bring it down during the time of Elijah when he faced the 400 prophets of Baal? 🤔 Besides, the Bible tells us in Revelation 13:13 that the second beast will make fire come down from heaven on earth in the sight of men, deceiving them. 🔥
There can be only one reason: nothing can happen on earth without God’s permission. Satan could only bring down fire from heaven on Job’s possessions because God allowed it by removing his hedge from around Job, except from Job’s life. This also shows us that when God gives such permission to satan, God sets definite limits on the devil’s power. God has also given us all that we need to live godly lives and will not let us be tried more than we can bear.
In Elijah’s time, the devil couldn’t do anything because that moment was for God’s glory alone! So no matter how long or loud the baal prophets shouted or how deeply they cut themselves, nothing happened. Remember there were over 400 of these false prophets out there against just Elijah. 🙌🏾
God will once again allow the devil, through the second beast, to bring fire down from heaven in our very own eyes. It happened in Job’s time and it will happen again. NB: Each time this fire from heaven came down or was to be brought down by the devil, it was to cause destruction/burn things up. 💡May we not be deceived by the great deceiver who’s main goal is to steal our worship of God, working through the first and second beasts in these end times. 🙏🏾
Taking a cue from Job, the good news with trials is that God disciplines the ones He loves and chastens everyone He accepts as His son. Any and every true child of God will go through rough patches in life but God’s promise is that while the chastening may not seem joyous in the moment but grievous, afterward it will produce a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. (Heb 12:6-11).
Whether the chastening is punishment for our sins or to build our faith, the same reaction is expected of us by God – to either return to Him wholeheartedly or to stay our focus and deepen our trust in Him. “You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.” James 5:11. 🙏🏾😇
