Why couldn’t satan bring fire down from heaven when Elijah/baal prophets were on the mountain?

If satan could bring fire down from heaven to destroy Job’s sheep and servants, why couldn’t he bring it down during the time of Elijah when he faced the 400 prophets of Baal? 🤔 Besides, the Bible tells us in Revelation 13:13 that the second beast will make fire come down from heaven on earth in the sight of men, deceiving them. 🔥 There can be only one reason: nothing can happen on earth without God’s permission.

Israel’s three great enemies: The Moabites, Ammonites and Edomites. Where did they come from?

The Moabites and Ammonites were children born out of deceit to Lot, cousin of Abraham. The Edomites were descendants of Esau. These three tribes - Moabites, Ammonites and Edomites - are mentioned repeatedly in the Bible, often as a duo or triumvate, in different attacks on the Israelites. What’s also interesting is that these enemies descended from marriage relations that were against God’s instructions!

Lessons from Nehemiah – How to repent

The book of Nehemiah highlights some great points in the process of true repentance to God. I noticed that they’re strikingly similar to the steps taken during the time of King Hezekiah in 2 Chr 29.

Time cycles in how/when God provides for His children

Exodus 16:4-5, 22-30; Leviticus 25:3-7. 20-22; 26:14-15, 34-35; 2 Chronicles 36:20-21; Isaiah 37:30-31 In studying the old testament, one time cycle that keeps jumping out at me relates to how and when God provided for His children.  First thing to note is that God had daily and yearly cycles, and the time marks in these … Continue reading Time cycles in how/when God provides for His children

Have you ever wondered why there are so many Churches?

As varied as perfume brands are, so is the endless list of Churches. 🤷🏾‍♂️ I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who’s ever wondered if this was really Jesus’ plan for His Church when He returned to heaven. 🤔 To understand this, I looked at ths history of the Church since the first century. This is mirrored in the prophecy of the four horsemen in Revelation 6. I’ll give a simple summary and you can study it further in your leisure time.

Believing vs Asking/Speaking – What the Bible says about ”meditating on the word”

Psalms 1:2 says “Blessed is the man who delights in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates, day and night”. The common worldly understanding of meditation is that we’re either actively thinking about something or emptying our minds of thought. Biblical meditation is however different: it’s neither about emptying our mind nor simply just thinking. Keep reading, I'll explain.

What could it mean for our “leaves not to wither”?

Ps 1:1-3 - one of my fave verses/promises. One seemingly innocuous statement in there that got me thinking recently with a friend is what could it mean for our leaves not to wither? 🤔 Since the fruit comes in its season, we settled this on the Ecclesiastes 7:14 verse which says “enjoy prosperity while you … Continue reading What could it mean for our “leaves not to wither”?

The Midianites – who were they?

Studying the history of the Midianites through the pages of the Bible reveals some interesting facts. Most fascinating is that they were almost annihilated by Moses who had married one of them (Zipporah) and had lived with them for 40 years while he was in exile. For Moses, he must have found it really hard to war against his wife’s own people, slaying their kings and rulers as well as people. You may be surprised at the number of other things the Bible tells us about these people:

Getting to the top, God’s way – 12 success lessons from the life of Daniel

The preparations for success at the top don't start from when you arrive at the top; rather, even in your lowly position today, you need to start exhibiting the characteristics required to succeed at the top and trust that God sees all and will reward you in due course, according to what you can handle. Matt 25:15. The life of Daniel is full of lessons for success and I hope you find these as a useful guide.

Lessons from King Manasseh – The terrible consequences of sin and HOW to repent before God

2 Chr 33 tells the story of King Manasseh, son of faithful King Hezekiah (see previous post). So evil was he that he overturned pretty much all the good acts of his father, acts that had brought Judah so much prosperity. It’s amazing how swiftly the people forgot the goodness of God when life was good and how similarly they lived like pagans in their disobedience to God. This happens time and time again in the Bible, and remains a valid warning for us today when we receive our heart’s desires. That they had an evil ruler also played its part.
