Understanding the first and last temptations of Jesus – victory through the word!

Matthew 4:1-11

Why did satan first tempt Jesus with food? Let us remember that the fall of man was predicated on failure to control appetite. It therefore made sense that Christ’s victory over sin should start with victory over appetite. Should He have failed like Adam and Eve then He would have been seen as mere mortal. But glory to God, He conquered with it is written: “man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord”. (Deut 8:3)

Why did satan stop tempting Jesus at the third temptation? 🤔 Why didn’t he continue to 5 or 20?! Because satan had shown his hand, his ultimate and real intention from time eternal – he wants to be worshiped! When he saw that he had failed after demanding this from Jesus, continuing to try to tempt Him was pointless! 🙅🏾‍♂️

When in the wilderness, we claim the victory by confessing and prophesying the words of God which are spirit and life (John 6:63), meaning they work great wonders in the spirit realm and help us know how to live in this life.
