Repenting like David

1 Kings 14:8

Despite what we know about David’s sins, why does God still say David kept His commandments, followed Him with all his heart and did only what was right in God’s eyes? 🤔 We know that in addition to David’s sin in sleeping with the wife (Bathsheba) of a trusted soldier, he also counted his army in attempt to feed his ego which angered God. These sins led to the death of Bathsheba’s first son and the unnecessary death of 70,000 Israelites. Clearly, David sinned and was punished; so, why does God still view him this way?

What I think is clear about David despite his weaknesses is that when he sinned, he was quick to repent and did not linger in his sins! This contrasts with the lives of Kings such as Saul and Solomon.

As God said in 1 Sam 16:7, God doesn’t see as man sees – God looks at the heart but men look at the outward appearance. God proved this to us even better as Jesus came from the lineage of Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba – women with rather sketchy backgrounds but right vessels in God’s eyes! 👀🤷🏾‍♂️

David loved God and we all benefit today from the thoughts of his heart through his highs and lows, well documented in the book of Psalms. 😇
